Our Story

Everyone deserves a place where they can be themselves. Regardless of who you are, the world can be a hard place show up authentically. This is even more difficult when  you constantly have to worry about access and acceptance. At Camp Linda, we seek to create a community where joy and acceptance are at the center of everything we do.

The name Camp Linda has a duel meaning. First, the word linda in Spanish means beautiful. No one is more beautiful than when they feel included. That beauty shines from within. Having experienced 20 years at Camp Jabberwocky the beauty that shines from every soul in that place is magical. In that way, calling ourselves Camp Beautiful feels like a nod to the mission we want to build.

I also chose the name Camp Linda after the first woman who showed me that beauty and taught me about living life with a disability - my mom, Linda Levitt. She was unparalleled at creating community and fun. She was notorious for taking an ordinary day and making it feel extraordinary. When I was six, she was diagnosed with ALS and our family quickly had to learn what it meant to live with a disability.  Although she passed away a few years later, her message of beauty regardless of circumstance led me to want to expand the ways that I professionally serve this community and even with 20 years of experience I know I’m just getting started.

Enter: Camp Linda. I know this is a long journey, but I’m planning to do it intentionally, one step at a time.  While the first year we will be interviewing and learning from people and communities of disabilities, the long term goal would be to have our own year-round space. Our dream for the space is to fill it with magic. Everything would be fully accessible and every detail would be about creating an atmosphere of inclusion and play.

Interested in the mission? We’d LOVE to hear from you.

Molly Levitt is building Camp Linda with the support and love of many people in the Camp Jabberwocky family with the goal of enabling even more people to have access to these types of life-changing experiences! She has been working in education for the last decade in a variety of contexts from being a classroom teacher and wedding videographer to the CEO of her own education company. After spending years using all her vacation time to attend Jabberwocky she knows the time is right to take the leap and begin serving this amazing community full time.
